Souk Cuisine offers you the opportunity to learn to cook as the Moroccan do at home. Cooking with Moroccan woman will be very inspiring. An example of dishes you will learn how to prepare are:

Zaahlouk of courgettes
Briouates with vegetables
Tagine with Lamb and quince
Tagine with ‘Boulette de Sardines’

Souk Cuisine is run by the very friendly Gemma Van de Burgt, from Netherlands will coach you during this cooking-day experience.

The day starts at 10 am with a trip to the market (the souk) to buy locals home-grown goods, food according to traditional methods. You’ll learn in spot how to find the best products, by looking , feeling, smelling & tasting.
The cooking is in the courtyard of a Riad, under banana trees

All takes about 4 hours & then try your own cooked dishes, with a glass of Moroccan wine.

Price per person is : 350 dirhams. This includes shopping, cooking with Moroccan women, lunch at least four dishes, recipes you can take home, dutch/english/french coaching, water & tea at your discretion and 2 glasses of wine.

Minimum number of person is 2, maximum is 12

Chez Chegrouni is one of the best – and cheapest – restaurants around the Place Djemaa El Fna. Get there early for a good table with a view of the Place. A very popular restaurants with both locals and tourists. Choose from soups, salads, grilled meats, couscous and tagines on the menu (in English) and scribble your order on one of the paper napkins in the table-glasses; hand it to a waiter and it will come back as your bill at the end of the meal.

Tasty food with affordable prices in one of the liveliest, craziest square in the world – snake charmers, storytellers, musicians, tumblers.

RRR La Trattoria

179 Rue Mohammed el Beqqal, T 044-432641. To locate, find La Taverne (opposite Cinéma Le Colisée near rond-point Abd el Moumen), which is on corner of Blvd Zerktouni and Rue Mohammed el Beqqal. La Trattoria is 2 blocks down, near to Café L’Amandine. The soul of the original owner, the baroque Gian Carlo, hovers over this place and standards are maintained. Probably the city’s best Italian restaurant with an excellent selection of wines and superb desser.

RRR Le Jacaranda

32 Blvd Mohammed Zerktouni (opposite Café Les Négociants), T 044-447215. Closed Tue and Wed lunchtime. Long-standing restaurant with good reputation. Well known for nouvelle French cuisine, including snails, beef carpaccio, and steak with Roquefort sauce. Eating à la carte, expect to pay 250dh. The menus are much cheaper. Terrace very noisy overlooking the traffic circle at the intersection of Avenue Mohammed V and Boulevard Zerktouni (and polluted, it’s next to a busy traffic light), so sit upstairs inside for quiet. Occasional live music.

RRR-RR Dar Mima

Derb Zaouia el Kadriya, Riad Zitoun Kedim, not far from the Dar Si
Said, T 044-385252. Evenings only, closed Wed. A la carte Moroccan
eating for around 200dh. Popular with foreign residents. Portions
said to be on the small side. Eat upstairs in one of the smaller salons.

Excellent opportunity to experience traditional Moroccan cuisine with
Moroccan wines. Wash your right hand with the water brought to your table.
This is more ceremonial today than practical reasons.

Tajine was a bit too fat, but that’s the way it should be, I am told. Decoration is very elegant and general atmosphere of the restaurant is very romantic.

RRR Riad Tamsna

RRR Yacout

79 Sidi Ahmed Soussi, T 044-382929. Evenings only, closed Mon and Aug. Total 600dh, including apéritif, wines and digestif. A classic (although the cuisine is said to have declined in recent years following extension works), born of the fervid imagination of one Bill Willis, haut décorateur extraordinaire. Here are all the trappings of Marrakech style: tadelakt-slathered chunky walls, domes, candles and fireplaces, pierced metal lanterns and low cushioned banquettes. There’s also a wonderful roof-terrace for drinks and al fresco dining next to a plunge pool. You may even be so blown away by the gorgeousness of it all that you won’t notice the poverty in the alleys when you stumble out to find your waiting taxi.

RRR Le Tobsil

Derb Abdallah ben Hussein, Leksour, T 044- 444052, 044-441523. Evenings only. Reservations essential. Moroccan standards cooked and served with more subtlety than is perhaps the norm. This place it is stylish and friendly, and the cuisine is excellent and diners are always satisfied. Sophisticated but can get a bit cramped (there are only a handful of tables).

RRR Le Pavillon

Said to be the best French restaurant in Marrakech, the menu changing on a daily basis. Le Pavillon can seat a maximum of 80 place setting: 50 in a graden (covered in winter) 10 and 20 in private dining rooms.

RRR Ksar Essaoussan

Leksour neighbourhood, T 044-440632. Closed Sun and Aug. Reservations essential. Along with Le Tobsil (see below), this place is rated as one of the Red City’s top tables. A lovely riad, where drinks are served in the courtyard before dinner. You can also wander around the house and admire the furnishings, and the view from the rooftop terrace. The cooking is reliable, three menus (300-500dh) include a half- bottle of wine and mineral water. Possibly a little too intimate for some tastes. NB Photo opportunities from the terraces.
